Do security guards need a license in Florida?

Yes. Florida requires every unarmed security officer to hold a Class D license and every armed officer to hold both a Class D and a Class G firearm license, issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The company employing them must hold a Class B agency license. Ranger's agency license is B3200150.

Class D — unarmed

Requires 40 hours of state-approved training, a background check, and fingerprinting. Renewed every two years with continuing education.

Class G — armed

Requires an additional 28 hours of firearms instruction plus annual requalification. Class G is only valid alongside an active Class D.

Class B — the agency

Only a licensed Class B agency may contract security officers to third parties in Florida. Always ask for the agency license number and verify it before signing.
